Educational Challenge Solution for HBSE 4005 for Fall, 2009

Cooke Center for Learning and Development located in New York, NY

PROBLEM #6:

We need something for all of the classrooms…some type of strategies for supporting audio/visual learners to access information through mediums other than written text , i.e. -slideshows/educational video clips (right now we have restricted access to Youtube.com) (We have access to a Smartboard if needed) Any help to figure out an overall system that could accessible for teachers and students appreciated. This multimedia strategy was requested by Joanne Chiu (jchiu@cookecenter.org) for her values curriculum. Nadine Rothman (nrothman@cookecenter.org) said the multimedia strategy could be used with other teachers as well.

Overall Summary:

Our multimedia strategy consisted of three main components.
1. SMART Board Strategies and Resources

3. Resources Teachers or Students Create
In addition, we gathered an assortment of resources that focus on Ms. Chiu's values and life skills curriculum.

Our strategy is explained in more detail in the following PowerPoint.

Lesson/Unit:

We developed two SMART Notebook files (Version 9.5 or later) that contained the resources that we recommended in our multimedia strategy.

Resources.notebook
Contains 5 groups of resources including SMART Notebook resources, Free Internet Resources (video), Subscription-based Internet Resources (video), Other Internet Resources (audio, images/slideshows), and Resources for Multimedia Creation. Each slide contains an image, a description and a URL.

Values.notebook
Contains 2 groups of resources including Existing Resources and Created Resources. Existing Resources included videos and related information on Gratitude, Responsibility, Confidence and Assurdness, and Creativity found on numerous sites that were suggested in our Resources section. The Created Resources included a video we created about Confidence using iMovie, a music video about Creativity using Animoto, and a Boardmaker-based document about Responsibility.
This file is too big to upload to the wiki but you may download it from DropBox: Values.notebook
Creativity Lesson Plan
Finally, here is a lesson plan about Creativity called "All the different methods to be Creative!" which utilizes the Animoto video we created.
